Dungloe
An Clochán Liath is the name you'll see on signposts as you approach Dungloe, referring to the grey-coloured stepping stones which were once used to cross the town's river. Dungloe is the biggest town in West Donegal, the focal point of Na Rosa or in English ‘The Rosses’. The town is known all over Ireland and further afield as the home of Mary from Dungloe, and of the festival called after her. The fishing enthusiast will be well catered for in the Rosses with 130 lakes, river, shore and sea fishing to choose from. For golfers there is a choice of excellent links courses to choose from within easy reach of the village.
The hills and cliffs of North West Donegal are still relatively unfrequented and little restraint is put on walkers. There are walks to suit all ages and interests. In the immediate vicinity you will find stunning unspoiled beaches, forest walks, quiet country roads and a wealth of historical sites to explore (check out our Walking in Donegal page for more information)
Other activities in the vicinity include - BEACHES - too many to name but all beautiful! Sea stack climbing with Unique Ascent. Kayaking with Rapid Kayaking. Outdoor adventures with Maghery Coastal Adventures. Sea safaris and diving with Dive Arranmore Charters. Surfing with Narosa Surf School. Horse Riding with Dunfanaghy Stables.
